NOWA GAZOWNIA / Poznań, Poland
Monstera is the hit of the season. Its leaves decorate hipster sweatshirts, wallpaper in the homes of wealthy burghers and the window sills of plant breeders. who want to keep up with trends.
Ewa Nowacka-Piechowiak painted monstera leaves before they became fashionable. The distinctive heart-shaped pattern appears on her mandala that attracts abundance. One of the first she created when she decided to return to painting after graduation. A mandala with flamingos serves for prosperity, for love - with a watermelon, and for the relief of the soul - the one with insects flying into a blue circle.
Mandalas painted on canvas do not refer to Buddhism. Hinduism or any other religion. These are cross-cultural mandalas - says the artist about them. However, similarly to the traditional Eastern motif, they harmoniously connect the circle and the square, and Nowacka-Piechowiak creates them in order to strengthen individual areas of life. But also to commemorate important moments, such as when, after the concert of the guitarist Carlos Piñana - who performed at the Academy of Guitar - she painted the mandala "Flamenco". The musician and the painter met then and came up with a joint painting and music project, planned for next spring.
Music will also accompany the opening of the M A N D A L A S exhibition at the Nowa Gazownia. A concert will be played by two Arab musicians living in Poznań: guitarist Humam Ammari (Humzy) from Jordan and Nidal Kalboneh (Nido) from Palestine, who plays the oud instrument, considered to be the ancestor of the lute.
The vernissage will take place on November 30 at 6.00 p.m. at the Nowa Gazownia at ul. Ewangelicka 1. The exhibition will last until December 20.
