Sustainability of the future

Recent years have brought many misunderstandings about nature conservation. Greenwashing and manipulation of public opinion caused consumers to gradually move away from products made of natural materials, such as leather, linen or silk, in favor of their cheaper substitutes.

Not everyone is aware that alternative materials are mainly based on oil, the extraction, refining and exploitation of which are associated with serious environmental pollution. Production of plastics and so-called "eco-leather" generates more greenhouse gases than using oil for transport and power.

In addition, plastic products wear out faster and look unsightly after a short time. So they end up in a landfill, and it takes thousands of years for them to decompose.

Greenwashing or "green eyewash" or "eco-sham"; large companies that produce countless amounts of waste and tons of plastic tell us in their advertisements that they care about sustainability, when in fact it is often the other way around.

Leather products and the environment 

Perhaps many will be surprised by the fact that the production of natural cowhide is simply waste disposal, i.e. recycling. Well, waste in the form of leather is the result of the dairy and meat industries, in a ratio of 93% to 6%.

This means that, unlike the fur industry, no animal has been killed solely for the purpose of obtaining material for leather products. However, this production significantly contributes to the protection of the natural environment.

Recycling - a process involving the reuse of waste to produce a new product, usually with the same or similar purpose; the materials obtained as a result of it are processed so that a new product can be made of them.

Leather and "vegan leather"

Considering vegan issues, one may wonder whether we need to produce food from animals at all, but it is true that the meat industry will not cease to exist overnight, and thus - also waste.

Let's start with the fact that there is no such thing as "vegan leather". It's a marketing invention and a catchy name for harmful material. Leather is only a natural material of animal origin. And its great advantage, apart from obvious aesthetic and functional values, is its biodegradability.

Modern vegetable tanning techniques make it possible to decompose shredded natural leather in as little as six months, and uncrushed and chrome-tanned leather - up to 25 years.

Eco-leather - this name is a marketing trick and manipulation of concepts; is made of a textile material covered with a layer of polyurethane (PU) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and has nothing to do with ecology.

Only genuine leather is actually ECO

Genuine leather products are beautiful, durable and truly "eco".

Their price is higher, but if properly maintained and cared for, they can last for generations. The renovation process will quickly restore the precious leather to its original glow.

Even leather covered with a patina of time looks impressive, perfectly matching the vintage trend. It can also be successfully used in upcycling projects, which further increases its value.

Upcycling - a form of secondary processing of waste treated as valuable raw materials; as a result of this process, both waste and materials used in primary production are reduced.
